Freefall lifeboats are a mandatory safety feature on bulk carriers and tankers since 2006. The tanker version also has to be fireproof for obvious reasons. The freefall lifeboats that Euro Offshore BV builds are made from a material called GRP which is a mixture of high quality fireproof fiberglass and reinforced polyester. The hull is injected with foam in certain areas to maximize buoyancy and the bow of the freefall lifeboat is extra strong in order to cope with the impact on the water.

Two different types of freefall lifeboats
At Euro Offshore BV you have the option between two types of freefall lifeboats, the cargo and the tanker version. The biggest types of the cargo freefall lifeboats can hold up to 75 people while the biggest tanker type boats can only hold 40 people. This difference in size is due to the fact that bulk carriers often have larger crews on board. Another difference is that the tanker version of freefall lifeboats is equipped with a water-spraying system for added fire protection.
